Hudson Gardens Artist in Residence: Barbara Grogan
Hudson Gardens is excited to announce our first Artist in Residence, local painter, Barbara Grogan! The Artist Residency Program is funded by the South Suburban Public Art Committee.
Barbara’s residency will take place from April 28-May 2, during which she will work out of the Pavilion. Known for her dynamic studio practice, Barbara works in acrylic paint to capture the warmth, rhythm, and emotional resonance of landscape. Through bold, expressive use of color, she invites painters of all levels to explore how place, light, and movement come together on the canvas.
There are multiple ways you can meet Barbara, learn more about her art, and see what she has been working on during her time at Hudson Gardens.
Open Studio Hours:
Tuesday, April 28, 1:30-4 pm

Artist in Residence Workshop:
Thursday, April 30, 1-4 pm
In this hands‑on workshop, participants will paint alongside the artist while learning about her creative practice, with a focus on expressive color and dynamic brushwork. Barbara will guide the group through the creation of two paintings, and each participant will end up with two unique acrylic works on canvas.
Participants are invited and encouraged to display their paintings from the workshop during the Artist in Residence reception.

About Barbara:
Barbara is an artist with a passion to paint with spirited color. Originally from New York, spending several years in Indiana and settling in Colorado, she has experienced a vast exposure to the varying landscapes and vegetation that inspires her.
She believes color is an expression of one’s self and she best expresses this in her paintings of nature.
