Hudson Gardens Artist in Residence: Dayna Copeland

 

Join Hudson Gardens in welcoming Artist-in-Residence Dayna Copeland for a week of creativity, storytelling, and community connection. Explore her expressive mixed-media collage practice during open studio hours, participate in a collaborative collage workshop, and celebrate local voices and experiences through art inspired by the Colorado Foothills. The Artist Residency Program is funded by the South Suburban Public Art Committee.

Dayna’s residency will take place from August 25-29, during which she will work out of the Pavilion. Her creative practice draws on storytelling and a passion for protecting sustainable natural spaces where people can gather, connect, and find inspiration. Through layered, thought-provoking, and visually striking imagery, she explores the stories of place, community, and belonging in the Colorado Foothills.

There are multiple ways you can meet Dayna, learn more about her art, and see what she has been working on during her time at Hudson Gardens.

Open Studio Hours:
Tuesday-Friday, 12-4 pm

Artist in Residence Workshop:
Saturday, August 29, 12:30-3 pm

Create a mixed-media collage inspired by personal stories, local history, and life in the Colorado Foothills. Using a variety of provided materials such as magazines, books, photographs, and other collage elements, participants will design their own unique artwork. Participants may also bring personal images or materials to include in their collage. Finished pieces can be displayed during the Artist Reception and may be contributed to a community collage collection celebrating the stories and creativity of our region. No experience is necessary.

About Dayna Copeland:

Dayna Copeland is an artist, musician, writer, teacher, and mother. Originally from New York, she attended writing programs at Florida State University and Yale before settling in Colorado more than fifteen years ago. Over the years, she has taught elementary art, founded and directed youth musical theater programs, and performed with the Colorado Symphony. She currently teaches writing at CU Denver while continuing to publish essays and articles exploring life’s most challenging and rewarding experiences.
